Inside the Electric Picnic festival grounds ahead of its return this weekend

Ireland's most hotly anticipated festival, Electric Picnic, is gearing up for its grand return this weekend.

From the main stage to the various festival activations, the setup for Electric Picnic is a big one. During a preview of the festival grounds yesterday, people were given a glimpse as to what to expect ahead of the massive festival, which is expected to attract 70,000 music fans after tickets sold out in just 30 minutes.

Electric Picnic kicks off on Friday, September 2, finishing up on Sunday, September 4. Construction has been completed on the main stage, which will welcome acts such as Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, Dermott Kennedy, Megan Thee Stallion, Snow Patrol and Picture This throughout the weekend.

Also unveiled yesterday were the tented villages and various stages and activations. One of those areas was Salty Dog, the recreated marooned pirate ship which will play host to some stellar Irish talent and promises to be one of Electric Picnic's rowdiest parties during the festival weekend.

A glimpse was also given at Freetown. Described as "a vibrant district is perched on the northern fringes of the sprawling Picnic metropolis", the area will welcome a number of top class DJs throughout the weekend as well as surprise guests.

As well as the main stage, there is the Electric Arena which will play host to acts such as Fontaines D.C., Willow, Annie Mac, The 2 Johnnies, Disclosure, London Grammar and James Vincent McMorrow throughout the weekend. Meanwhile, the Rankin's Wood stage will welcome the likes of Rina Sawayama, Kneecap, Kojaque, Griff, CMAT, Tolu Makay and Little Simz.

Other stages at electric Picnic include the Terminus Stage for dance lovers, Mother After Dark which will play host to the beloved Mother DJs, Mindfield for live podcast and slam poetry lovers, Trailer Park and Berlinhaus (the secret underground techno bunker).

Managing director of Festival Republic Melvin Benn told RTE about his "joy" seeing the festival return for the first time since 2019.

He said: "Everyone works so hard on this site to create unique spaces and adventures so I am hoping, as always, that this will be a festival within a festival."
