interiors editors homes: Charlotte Duckworth's front door
Charlotte Duckworth, 31, is a freelance interiors journalist who has worked on tons of interiors magazines, including Good Homes, Ideal Home and LivingEtc. She lives in Wimbledon, in a top-floor two-bedroom Edwardian maisonette, which she bought last April (2011). Living in a maisonette means she gets her own front entrance (Number Thirty-Six is also the name of her Tumblr page. Here, she gives us a guided tour around her home ...

“My pink sofa is the Fancy Nancy from Sofa Workshop. I wanted it for about six years, but it was always too expensive. I literally used to harangue the store, asking them to sell me their display model, but they never would. Then one day, I was shopping and saw it in the window with a big red clearance tag on it - I marched in, told the stunned sales assistant that I’d waited six years for it, and had to buy it. I love the subtle midcentury look of it, especially the buttons and piping. Bright pink is a surprisingly easy colour to live with. It’s bold without being dominant and adds warmth to my white walls and grey floor.” Fancy Nancy sofa, Sofa Workshop, from £1591.

“When I first moved in, the hallway and stairs were carpeted, but it felt very dark, so I ripped the carpet out and painted all the floorboards white. Papering the stairs was an idea I first saw in a feature in LivingEtc. I decided to copy the look using wallpaper with a subtle graphic print. I love wallpaper, and I just did a strip up the middle so it mimics a carpet runner.” Isak penguin green wallpaper, £38 per roll.

“The pink bunny lamp was £34 from The Little Baby Company. Yes, it’s meant for children! I’m a bit obsessed with lighting, the quirkier the better. The chair is from the now defunct Chair Company but try Habitat for a similar one. I bought it when I was working for Kitchens, Bedrooms and Bathrooms magazine, which definitely influenced my tastes. I’d love a new desk - at the top of my wishlist is a black walnut writing desk from Young & Norgate. My work has taught me to investigate the heritage of products, so I’d far rather wait and save for something that’s been lovingly made than get something mass-produced.”

interiors editors homes: Charlotte Duckworth's bedroom
“My bedroom is very calm and peaceful, with white-painted floorboards. It's not a huge room so keeping everything white helps maximise the sense of space. It has a lovely airy feel that makes me feel like I'm on holiday somewhere warm every time I wake up. The curtains are a subtle striped silk, leftover from a magazine shoot. The screenprint above the bed is by printmaker Clare Cutts and was a 30th birthday present to myself - a total impulse buy, and my most expensive piece of art.” Striped bedlinen, Toast, from £17.
