Inside Manchester's newest hidden bar - with a beer vending machine and walls you can draw on

A brand new basement bar is about to open its doors in Manchester city centre.

Salt Dog Slims, already a much-loved dive bar concept in Liverpool, has taken over the former Dogs n Dough site.

Tucked away on Bow Lane, just off Cross Street in the heart of the city centre, the bar has a pool table, a beer vending machine, and walls patrons are encouraged to graffiti.

As with the former occupier, Salt Dog Slims will serve a range of hot dogs, alongside beers and creative cocktails.

The concept was created in 2012 in Liverpool, inspired by the dive bar culture in the U.S.

There are plenty of nods to American culture throughout the space, from the beers and whiskeys in the fridge to the Cocktails & Dreams neon on the stairs.

Their star cocktail is the Salt Dog Millionaire, a mix of rums, sloe gin, pineapple, passion fruit and mango, finished with a huge flame.

Another house drink is the Hobo Punch, a pre-bottled concoction of Buckfast, gin and citrus fruits, served wrapped in a brown paper bag.

The bar has booth seating throughout, and a pool table, as well as neon beer signs throughout.

One of its key features is a huge white wall that guests are encouraged to doodle on, a beer mug full of Sharpies placed in front of it.

A beer vending machine stands in one corner, selling cans of lager and pale ale.

Salt Dog Slims will be open until 4am, creating a brand new late-night haunt for the city centre.

The bar has taken shape in the old Dogs and Dough site, which sadly closed down back in 2019.

Salt Dog Slims will open to the public on Wednesday October 20.
