Inside luxury cruise ship docked in Glasgow for a year as Azamara Quest returns to the Clyde

One of three luxury cruise liners which spent over a year docked in Glasgow during covid recently made its return to Scotland's west coast.

The Azamara Quest was tied up at Shieldhall's King George V Dock alongside sister ships Azamara Journey and Pursuit as covid brought the cruise industry to a halt. The Quest arrived in our city in June 2020 before finally sailing down the Clyde over 12 months later, with crew onboard not even allowed to leave the docks because of covid lockdown regulations.

In that time the ships and their crew developed a real affinity with Glasgow and its people, hundreds of whom lined the banks of the Clyde when the trio finally departed the city in 2021.

Last week we reported on how that sail away 'pulled at the heartstrings' of Azamara Quest captain Johannes Tysse, who admitted it was a bittersweet moment for the ship to finally depart Glasgow.

The cruise industry is more or less back to normal now, with liners all over the world sailing at close to capacity.

Last week, the Azamara Quest arrived in Greenock as part of a cruise travelling from Amsterdam to Dublin, with stops in Leith, Invergordon, Ullapool and Inverclyde - carrying over 600 passengers and almost 400 crew.

And we popped on board for the day to have a look around and see what life would have been like for the staff who were on the ship while it sat still for months in the dock at Shieldhall.

Described as a 'small luxury cruise ship' and a 'boutique hotel at sea', the impressive vessel features seven different restaurants, bars, cafes, lounges, swimming pool, shops, a gym, spa and much more, while there's a variety of different accommodation options, from an interior 'stateroom' to the more luxurious club balcony plus options.
