Inside Leeds Bradford Airport 'chaos' with queues like you've 'never seen before' and angry passengers demanding answers

By Lucy Marshall

The chaos at Leeds Bradford Airport continues as long queues stretch across airport, and passengers say "it really is as bad as people are saying".

Recently holidaygoers have been faced with major delays before getting on flights at the airport. According to a spokesperson for the airport, the process of "ongoing recruitment and training activities", there had been huge queues and over three hour waiting times to get through security, including fast track.

However, a LBA spokesperson has said they are confident with more staff being recruited, the situation will go back to normal but they admitted “very few passengers that regrettably miss their flight”. Those who miss flights are told to contact their airline for advice.

Last week, passengers shared their frustration with Leeds Live after waiting in queues branded "chaos", before Saturday's delays left one female holidaygoer missing not one but two flights. And today (May 11) passengers getting on flights between 6am and 8am faced queues "like never before".

Around 7am on Wednesday morning queues were seen stretched from the Jet2 check-in desk all the way through to security. Frustrated passengers, both going on business trips, or away for a holiday, were seen on their mobile phones to loved ones saying that the "queues seem like they're going to be ages".

Two West Yorkshire Police officers were seen monitoring the "standstill" queues, and passengers waited around an hour to get up to the security section Others were reportedly stuck in line at security just ten minutes before their flight was due to depart.

People coming into the airport with trolleys of luggage, suitcase, and prams struggled to get through the doors easily due to the amount of people queuing. Several people took to social media while at the airport this morning to share their outrage. One Twitter user warned others the airport "is as bad as people are saying." @Brad7Lee said: "For anyone coming to #leedsbradfordairport it really is as bad as people are saying. 3 hours at least this morning for security."

@ramjam1973 added: "Huge queues at #leedsbradfordairport for security, Get there early even for fast track." Another passenger, who did not wish to be named, said: “I've been to this airport many times before and never seen queues quite like it - it really is as busy as everyone has been saying. Not the most thrilling thing to have to do on the way to a much-anticipated holiday."

One customer hinted at flying from Heathrow instead. @zizi_87 on Twitter said: "@LBIAirport 'only' one hour and 57 minutes to get through security today. @HeathrowAirport what's your queue time...five minutes? #leedsbradfordairport."

But despite previous reports of individuals missing flights due to the queues, the departures and arrivals board on Wednesday morning showed no cancellations or delays to flights at Leeds Bradford Airport. But airlines are advising people to arrived at the airport three hours before their flight.

Bottom line how many hours can we check in for a 6am flight?" Jet 2 responded to the passenger from their @jet2tweets account, adding: "Hi Tony. The check-in desk at Leeds Bradford Airport will open three hours before departure."

But another passenger travelling with Ryanair pointed out that the advice between airlines in conflicting. The individual, who wishes to remain unnamed said: "So, the airport recommend arriving three hours before your flight but Ryanair check-in only opens two hours before your flight. Perhaps the airport management need to talk to Ryanair and get them to open their check-in earlier?"
