Inside Darius Campbell Danesh’s marriage to ex Natasha Henstridge as she pays tribute

The ex-wife of Darius Campbell Danesh has paid tribute to her husband following his tragic death.

The Scots Pop Idol star was found dead at his Minnesota apartment on August 11, his family confirmed yesterday.

Glasgow-born Darius was married to actress and model Natasha for two years, from 2011 - 2013.

Last night Natasha said in a statement she had "no words" to describe her devastation.

No cause of death has yet been revealed but tributes have been pouring in for the musician.

And his former partner shared her own emotional words as she quoted Mother Theresa in her heartbreaking message.

Natasha also shared a string of sweet photos of the pair in the now deleted post.

The actress captioned her post: "I have found the paradox that is you love until it hurts. there can be no more hurt- Only more love -Mother Theresa.

"There are no words Darius… only Love Love Love. Forever Janam."

Natasha, who shot to fame in the nineties with her debut role in the science-fiction thriller Specie, started dating the Scottish singer-turned-actor in 2004 after he moved to the US following his incredible Pop Idol stint at the age of 22.

The pair were engaged in 2010 but split up soon after, before rekindling their romance and tying the knot on Valentine’s Day 2011 at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California.

But their love story wasn't to last as they split just two years later before finalising their divorce in 2018.

During their relationship and marriage, the singer became a doting step-father to Natasha's two young sons.

Darius later admitted the union was a turbulent one, with the couple regularly on and off throughout their courtship.

"That relationship was certainly not without its ups and downs. Over the course of 12 years we broke up many times and had a period of six months apart," he once told the Scottish Herald

"It was often a long distance relationship for half of it. That in itself was an amazing experience, but a painful one. When you love someone you want to be with them," he added.

And when they filed for divorce in 2013, Darius was heartbroken.

"I felt a great sense of loss with the divorce and I went through a grieving period. You see, you don’t break up with one person, you break up with three. And in some ways, it’s like a death," he added.

Tributes have poured in for the former Pop Idol singer following his untimely death, with stars such as Simon Cowell and Gareth Gates sharing heartbreaking memories about the much-loved star.

Music mogul Simon, 62, called Darius' death an 'absolute tragedy' in a gushing tribute.

The pair had appeared on Pop Idol together back in 2002, with Syco boss Simon in the judging seat as Darius impressed with his vocal talents.

Paying tribute, Simon said: "I first saw Darius on television over 20 years ago and I got to know him really well.

He was charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with.

“His passing, for someone so young, is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends.”

Former Pop Idol star Gareth Gates also rushed to share his condolences after learning the devastating news of Darius' death at 41.

Gareth, 38, described his Pop Idol co-star as his 'big brother' as he penned: "I can’t quite believe the news of my dear friend Darius passing. I’m heartbroken. Darius took me under his wing during our time in Pop Idol, like a big brother; always looking out for me and for that I thank you my friend.

"I will miss our chats. He was one of the most beautiful, intelligent and gentle souls I was lucky enough to know, a soul that lit up every room. Goodbye my friend. Forever in my heart."

Nicki Chapman was also the first of the Popstars judges to share their heartbreak over his death, writing on social media: "There will only ever be one Darius Campbell Danesh.

"A true gent with a kind soul & mischievous tinkle in his eye. From that eventful first audition on Popstars to him kindly inviting me to see him perform on the West End stage. Thoughts are with his family at this sad time."

X Factor alumni Rylan Clark tweeted: "Proper sad about Darius."

A statement from Darius' family read: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.

"Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office.

"The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.

"We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother."

The star - known as Darius Danesh when he made his first bid for fame in ITV show Popstars in 2001 - also appeared on the first Pop Idol, which was won by Will Young.

After his successful stint in Pop Idol, he was offered a record deal by Cowell but he turned it down in favour of working with producer Steve Lillywhite.

He went on to forge a successful stage career, appearing in Chicago as Billy Flynn in two runs of the production, as well as Guys And Dolls, Gone With The Wind and more in the West End.
