Inoue dominates Tapales to win undisputed championship in second division

Naoya Inoue becomes second men's fighter to win undisputed championship in second division.

In the world of boxing, where punches and knockouts reign supreme, a new champion has emerged, and he goes by the name of Naoya Inoue. With his recent victory over Marlon Tapales, Inoue has not only solidified his status as a dominant force in the ring but has also etched his name in the history books.

Inoue's win against Tapales was no easy feat. It was a hard-fought battle that showcased Inoue's skill, determination, and unwavering focus. Despite the intensity of the fight, Inoue remained composed, thanks to the support and encouragement of his corner.

With this victory, Inoue has added the IBF and WBA belts to his already impressive collection of titles, which include the WBC and WBO junior featherweight titles. He now stands as only the second men's fighter to win an undisputed championship in a second division in the four-belt era, following in the footsteps of Terence Crawford.

Currently ranked No. 2 in ESPN's pound-for-pound rankings, Inoue's star continues to rise. He has proven himself as a formidable opponent in multiple weight classes, having previously won titles at junior flyweight, junior bantamweight, and bantamweight. However, Inoue has no plans to stop there.

While he plans to stay at junior featherweight for the foreseeable future and defend his newly acquired belts, Inoue has his sights set on even more greatness. In 2024, he aims to move up to the 122-pound division in even stronger form, ready to prove himself once again.

Inoue's remarkable rise to prominence has not gone unnoticed, as he received some first-place votes in ESPN's pound-for-pound rankings. Although he didn't dethrone Terence Crawford from the top spot this time, Inoue's journey is far from over, and there's no doubt he will continue to make waves in the boxing world.

But Inoue isn't the only one making moves in the rankings. WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol recently moved up one spot after a commanding unanimous decision victory over Lyndon Arthur. Bivol now sits at No. 4, surpassing the highly regarded Canelo Alvarez.

Other fighters who received votes but fell just shy of cracking the top 10 include Teofimo Lopez Jr., Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez, David Benavidez, Vasiliy Lomachenko, Errol Spence Jr., and Emanuel Navarrete. These fighters continue to showcase their skills and remain on the radar of fans and critics alike.

ESPN's rankings are determined through a rigorous voting process, with each panel member awarding points based on rankings. First place receives 10 points, second place receives nine points, and so on. Ties are settled by considering the fighter with the highest ranking and then the one with the most votes at that ranking.

While the pound-for-pound rankings may be subjective, they provide an intriguing glimpse into the current state of the sport. As fighters like Inoue, Bivol, and many others continue to climb the ranks, the anticipation for future matchups and potential clashes of titans grows exponentially.

The world of boxing is a dynamic and ever-evolving realm where champions are made and legacies are crafted. With each victory, Naoya Inoue forges his path to greatness, leaving audiences captivated and eager for more. The journey has just begun, and the future is full of excitement and anticipation as the boxing landscape continues to shift and unfold.
