Innovative Guitarist Byeong Woo Lee To Perform Bong Joon-Ho's 'Mother' Score Live

'Parasite' director Bong Joon-ho calls for protection of artists after actor Lee Sun-Kyun's death

Innovative guitarist Byeong Woo Lee has an impressive musical resume, having composed scores for 27 feature films, including renowned works like A Tale of Two Sisters, Ode to My Father, and The King and the Clown. Lee collaborated with acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho on three films, including the Academy Award-winning Parasite.

Lee will be performing the score for Bong's 2009 noir thriller 'Mother' at a special event in New York City's Town Hall on April 20. 'Mother' tells the story of a mother's relentless pursuit to prove her son's innocence in a murder case, with Lee's evocative score enhancing the film's narrative.

Known for his innovative guitar designs, Lee will showcase his unique sound during the performance. His musical talents have been pivotal in the success of Bong's films, with 'Mother' earning critical acclaim and becoming South Korea's submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 82nd Academy Awards.

Prior to the screening and live performance, Lee will treat the audience to a mix of jazz, classical, and new age music on the acoustic guitar. His setlist will feature selections from his film scores, solo guitar albums, and classical pieces, showcasing his diverse musical range.

Lee's performance will introduce a new guitar playing concept called 'crazy fingers,' which offers a unique approach to playing scales and exploring the guitar fingerboard. Accompanied by an orchestra conducted by Tania León, Lee's concert promises to be a captivating musical experience.

The event, co-produced by Next To Silence Productions, marks the launch of Town Hall's K-Town Hall series in partnership with Korean Cultural Center NY. The series aims to showcase talented artists like Lee and promote cultural exchange through music and literary events.

Described as one of modern cinema's greatest composers, Lee's upcoming performance at Town Hall is highly anticipated, highlighting his prowess as both a composer and guitarist. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on April 20, offering audiences a night of exceptional music and artistic talent.
