Inflation ran at 1.33% year-on-year in September, rising for the 15th consecutive month, on rising oil prices. This year's inflation was now projected at 1.25%, the Commerce Ministry announced.
Pimchanok Vonkornpon, director of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office, said on Monday that rising oil prices were the major factor, with energy accounting for 0.93% of overall inflation.
She said energy prices had risen for 22 consecutive months while the price of unprocessed food and fresh vegetables fell. Inflation was at 1.62% in August.
For the first nine months of this year, inflation was at 1.14%, mainly on rising demand and energy prices, she said.
Farm prices dropped but farm income and wages tended to increase. Therefore, inflation would gradually go up over the rest of the year, Ms Pimchanok said.
The Commerce Ministry raised its inflation projection for 2018 from 1.2% to 1.25%.
