The Aichi prefectural government mistakenly posted on its website the names of people infected with the new coronavirus and their private relationships, along with other personal information such as occupation, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.
Although there were no reports or confirmations of the data being copied or misused as of Thursday, the prefectural government has been inundated with complaints from the infected people and their family members, among others.
The website contained notes on relationships among some of the infected people, using such terms as "partner" and "lover?" in addition to their occupations, according to sources.
The prefectural government has been flooded with complaints from those listed on the website and other people concerned since Tuesday afternoon when it announced the erroneous posting. More than 100 complaints have been made as of Thursday, including from a person considering to file a lawsuit seeking damages.
The information in question was left online for about 45 minutes from about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, meaning information on the prefecture's 490 infected people, in 495 cases, was able to be accessed by anyone.
Of them, the names of 396 people were disclosed, and the prefectural government contacted each of them to apologize for the error. It is also considering contacting the people whose names were not disclosed to apologize, by obtaining their contact information from the Nagoya city government and other sources.
