Indore: Less than 3% adults get third Covid shot in 4 months

INDORE: Adult people of Indore division are showing very less enthusiasm for their Covid-19 precaution doses as less than three percent have taken their third shot.

The Covid-19 vaccine inoculation records from the regional director office showed that only 2.56% of 93.77 lakh adult people have their third shot in the last four months. This translated to 2.40 lakh precaution dose inoculation only, showed records.

Of those 2.40 lakh precaution dose, 1.13 lakh third dose were inoculated to 60+ population in division showing very poor response among 18-45, 46-59 age group, showed records.

The inoculation of precaution doses began on January 10 this year, when the union government allowed third shots for health care/frontline workers, and 60+ population after a gap of nine months from second dose.

The union government later allowed it for the adult population (18-59 age group) in private centers from April 10. The drive in this age group however couldn’t pick up as evident from record as very less people have taken their third dose.

Regional director (health services) Indore division Dr Ashok Dagaria said, “Footfall of people at Covid-19 vaccination sites have reduced post third wave in January this year because of the very mild nature of the new variant of the virus.”

“This led to a complacency in people about taking their precaution dose. The 60+, Healthcare, Frontline workers have taken their third shot in great numbers than other age group of adult population because of fear as it begun amidst third wave surge”, said Dr Dagaria.

In case of kids aged 15-17, around 80,554 (11%) of targeted ones are remaining to take their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine in division. Over 70% of kids in the 15-17 age group have taken their second dose to complete the immunization, showed records.

Similarly, for 12-14 kids in division, 3.98 lakh have taken their first dose and 1.14 have taken both the doses, showed records.
