NEW DELHI: The Indian women's football team succumbed to a 0-3 defeat against Uzbekistan in their first international friendly at the Bunyodkor Stadium in Tashkent on Friday.
After a resilient first half, the Blue Tigresses conceded three goals in the second half, all scored by striker Khabibulaeva Deora, resulting in a comfortable victory for the hosts.
The first half saw a balanced contest, with the Indian defense, led by Ashalata Devi, displaying strong discipline and physicality to keep the Uzbek attackers at bay.
Despite several set-piece opportunities for Uzbekistan, Indian goalkeeper Shreya Hooda was rarely tested, ensuring the teams went into the break goalless.
However, the second half began with a crucial moment just four minutes in when Sanju was penalized for a handball inside the box.
Uzbek wingback Khikmatova Madina's cross hit Sanju's arm, leading the referee to award a penalty. Deora confidently converted the spot-kick to give Uzbekistan the lead.
Deora struck again in the 75th minute, doubling Uzbekistan's advantage. She collected a long ball from the left, and with a precise first touch, finished smartly into the bottom corner, leaving Hooda with no chance to react.
The hat-trick was completed in the 89th minute with a spectacular goal from Deora. Picking up the ball 30 yards from the goal, she unleashed a powerful right-footed shot that flew into the top corner.
India had a late opportunity to score through Pyari Xaxa, who made a determined run through the Uzbekistan defense but ultimately shot wide from outside the box.
The Indian team, coached by Chaoba Devi, will have a chance to regroup and improve as they face Uzbekistan again in their second friendly match on June 4.
