Mowgli: The Indian street food restaurant chain coming to Bristol for the first time

Fans of Indian food in Bristol don't have long to wait until a new restaurant specialising in the cuisine opens in the city centre.

Mowgli has 10 sites across the UK in major cities including Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham and Cardiff.

Headed up by former barrister Nisha Katona MBE, the brand has developed a reputation for serving traditional Indian street food at reasonable prices, with plenty of vegan and gluten free options to choose from.

There is also a choice of tiffin boxes including the 'Office Worker's Tiffin', which includes four tiers of meat and veg for £16 and the veggie-option 'Indian School Tiffin' for £14.

Its website says 'Mowgli is all about how Indians eat at home and on their streets' and 'about the smash and grab zing of healthy, light, virtuosic herbs and spices'.

Mowgli restaurants across the UK are stunning in design, with fairy lights covering the walls and the option of sitting at swinging chairs hanging from the ceiling for those who fancy a dining experience with a difference.

And it is likely Bristol's restaurant, which will replace the former Pizza Express site on Corn Street, will be equally as impressive, according to Nisha.

She said: "It took us ages to find the right corner of this incredible city, but you asked for a Mowgli in Bristol and we trawled long and hard ever since.

"There are many old buildings like this in India from a bygone era into which life and trees and food markets sneak and grow respectfully, exotically.

"I will bring my trees and lanterns, branches and ropes with our chat bombs and cheese toast and gunpowder chicken."

Mowgli's Manchester restaurant has a rating of 4 / 5 rating on Tripadvisor while its new Cardiff branch is rated 4.5 / 5, with the majority of reviewers praising both the food and service.

When is Bristol's Mowgli opening?

A spokesperson said the new city centre restaurant is likely to open in December.

Nisha added: "We hope diners will love Mowgli's passion for healthy, fresh Indian food. The menu is entirely comprised of dishes from my family’s recipes."
