
In her new position, Kuppa will continue to lead the department’s information technology strategy, focusing on digital transformation and the adoption of artificial intelligence across the agency. Sharing the news on LinkedIn, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “New chapter as CIO! Grateful for the opportunity to keep serving and making a difference.”
Kuppa brings over 25 years of experience spanning both public and private sectors. She joined the Department of Labour in 2021 and previously served as the Chief Technology Officer and Chief AI Officer. Before that, she spent a decade at the Bureau of Labour Statistics, where she held multiple roles, including project manager at the Division of Federal-State Monthly Surveys and later Acting Director of the Directorate of Survey Processing.
Her professional journey began in 1995 in the private sector, where she worked in various roles until transitioning to public service in 2010. Academically, Kuppa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Andhra University in India, followed by a Master’s degree in Computer Science from SNDT University in Mumbai.
Throughout her career, she has played a pivotal role in shaping technological innovation within the Department of Labour. She is credited with developing the agency’s artificial intelligence strategy, establishing its enterprise data platform, and advancing digital capabilities through low-code and no-code solutions.
Kuppa has consistently emphasized the human aspect of technological transformation. Speaking at FedTalks in September 2024, she highlighted the importance of adapting to rapid advancements in AI, noting, “AI is less about technology; it’s more about change management. Unlike previous technologies, where there was time to understand and adapt, AI is evolving so quickly that we must focus on managing change and investing in the workforce.”
Her appointment underscores the growing importance of leadership that blends technological expertise with strategic vision in an era of rapid digital transformation.
