India World Cup Schedule 2023: India to play first match against Australia on October 8

India will be hosting an ICC ODI World Cup as sole hosts for the first time later this year. The three earlier editions of the tournament which were held in the country saw India being co-hosts - in 1987, 1996 and 2011.

The ICC on Tuesday announced the final schedule of the 2023 edition of the ODI World Cup, with India's marquee clash vs arch rivals Pakistan being scheduled for October 15 in Ahmedabad. The tournament will kick-off on October 5 and run till November 19.

The BCCI had earlier sent a draft schedule to the ICC of the same and now the official schedule has been announced. Typically the schedule for a World Cup is announced well in advance so that fans have enough time to book their tickets and make their travel plans, along with local administrations being given enough time to prepare the venues. This time however there has been a considerable delay primarily because of the uncertainty of Pakistan travelling to India. With assurances received from the PCB after a hybrid model for the Asia Cup was agreed upon, the ICC has now revealed the final dates and venues for all the fixtures.

This time 10 different cities will host the matches across India. A total of 10 teams will be in action. 8 qualified via the Cricket World Cup Super League. The other 2 spots will be determined after the conclusion of the ongoing qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe on July 9.

Team India will begin their campaign with a blockbuster clash vs the most successful team in the history of the ODI World Cup - Australia.
