India vs New Zealand: Kiwis have a hit under lights in quest of Holy Grail

HYDERABAD: After taking a day's rest on Sunday, the New Zealand team, which is in India for three ODIs and an equal number of T20I games, underwent an intense training session ahead of the first ODI at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Monday.

The Kiwis, who almost won the second Test against Pakistan in fading light and then came from one down to win the ODI series 2-1, showed great intent on the ground.

The Kiwis know that things will not be easy for them on the tour especially as they are without the services of Kane Williamson and Tim Southee. Hence, they seemed keen to get into the grove as quickly as possible.

The Tom Latham squad will not only need a lot of pluck but plenty of luck if they hope to overcome the marauding Indians, who have thrashed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the ODI series which ended on Sunday.

Known for their athleticism, the Black Caps were seen diving, sliding and pulling off some stunning catches - a few were missed too as the fading sunlight didn't make things easy.

The warm up and catches session lasted for an hour before the players took a break. They then headed to the practice nets.

With the Indian team scheduled to have nets under lights on Tuesday, the Kiwis had a lengthy batting session. The visiting batters had a knock for more than two hours under lights.

Knowing that the Indian spinners will be more than a handful, the Black Caps batted against a few local bowlers apart from their own spinners.
