India vs Australia: Irfan Pathan 'very disappointed' on Sanju Samson’s omission

NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan expressed his disappointment over Sanju Samson's omission from the Indian ODI series squad against Australia. Pathan shared his feelings on social media, stating that he would be very disappointed if he were in Samson's position.

The Indian cricket team announced a 17-man squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. Notable players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav won't be featuring in the first two games of the series.

Sanju Samson, who was already omitted from the World Cup squad, was left out once again. Surprisingly, players like Tilak Varma and Ruturaj Gaikwad were preferred over Samson. Samson was recently named as a reserve for the Asia Cup 2023.

Irfan Pathan's comments highlight the frustration and disappointment that talented players like Samson may experience when they don't find a consistent place in the national team despite showing promise and performing well when given the opportunity.

Samson, known for his versatility as a batsman and wicketkeeper, has played 13 ODIs for India, scoring 390 runs at an average of 55.71, including three half-centuries. However, he hasn't been able to establish himself as a regular member of the team.

India's squad for the first two ODIs against Australia includes KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami, Tilak Varma, Prasidh Krishna, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Washington Sundar.

The squad for the third ODI against Australia includes Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami, Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel (subject to fitness assessment), Ravichandran Ashwin, and Washington Sundar.
