IND vs ENG, 2nd Test: Shubman Gill rides his luck to score a resilient fifty

NEW DELHI: James Anderson's double strike initially put India on the back foot, but Shubman Gill's resilient half-century led India to a score of 130 for four at lunch on day three of the second Test against England.

India, resuming their second innings at 28 for no loss, faced the dismissals of Rohit Sharma (12), Yashasvi Jaiswal (17), Shreyas Iyer (29), and Rajat Patidar (9) during the morning session.

SCORECARD

Despite the setbacks, Gill's unbeaten 60 and Axar Patel (2 batting) steadied the ship, with India holding a lead of 273 runs.

Gill, who endured a challenging period with the bat, survived two close DRS calls in successive overs upon his arrival at the crease.

The TV umpire overturned an on-field lbw decision after detecting an inside edge off Tom Hartley's delivery. Shortly afterward, a ball from Anderson striking Gill's knee roll was deemed umpire's call.

Benefiting from these moments of fortune, Gill gained confidence and showcased his attacking prowess.

A straight six off Shoaib Bashir and a series of well-timed shots against spinners marked his return to form. He reached his half-century with an impressive cover drive off Rehan Ahmed.
