In upscale Delhi neighbourhood, public walkways turn into private parking lots

Elite neighbourhoods in Delhi flaunt order. But beyond their walls lies a story of public spaces being quietly taken over. In Gulmohar Park, our latest ground reports found hundreds of metres of public walkways and green spaces swallowed by private driveways, parking lots, and garden extensions.

This report is part of our Sena project tracking how India’s elite take over public land in cities from Delhi to Bengaluru, Hyderabad to Chennai. But who pays the price when public space vanishes and authorities look away?
