Home renovations sometimes lead to discoveries of hidden pipes, storage areas, or construction remnants. However, renovations hardly ever lead to findings that alter the perception of entire regions' histories. That was not the case in central Turkey back in 1963, however. A homeowner was carrying out renovations in the city of Derinkuyu when he realized there was something suspicious about a certain wall in his house. Driven by curiosity, he decided to explore beyond.
Behind the wall, the homeowner did not find a new room. He discovered the entrance to an expansive area which had remained untouched by time until that day. The discovery was bound to spark great interest across the globe since it was one of the most amazing underground constructions known.
