There have been voices questioning the 'Impact Player' rule that has been in force in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since the 2023 edition, but the BCCI secretary Jay Shah says the board has not received any feedback on it, while it is set to be reviewed after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.
Talking to reporters at the BCCI office in Mumbai on Thursday, Shah said that the rule benefits, as two new Indian players gets a chance on the IPL stage.
"Impact player rule was brought in as a test case. On the bright side, it is providing additional playing opportunities to two Indian players," Shah said.
"Isn't it important that two Indian players are getting a chance? The game is also becoming more competitive. But still, if the players feel that this is not all right, we will speak on it. However, no one has said anything about it yet. After the IPL and the World Cup, we will have a meeting and decide," he said.
"After the World Cup, we will consult with the players, franchises and broadcasters and decide about the future course. It's not a permanent rule, nor am I saying we will move past it," he added.
Shah made it clear that the revival of Champions League T20 tournament has not been discussed with the ICC, contrary to the claims made by Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins.
"The Cricket Victoria CEO has not spoken to me about this. No such discussions are taking place. I would have told you had I been a part of any talks," Shah said.
It is also being speculated that Shah may run for the post of ICC chair as Greg Barclay's term ends later this year, but Shah left everybody guessing about that.
"Let me be here in BCCI. Let there be speculation. But let me be here (in the BCCI). Am I not doing a good job?" he asked.
