'Immensely proud of our athletes': PM Modi applauds India's Special Olympics Winter Games medallists

Special Olympics Bharat hosted a reception ceremony on Monday to welcome the returning Indian athletes from Turin, Italy following their outstanding performance at the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games. The Prime Minister shared photographs of his interaction with the athletes on social media, showcasing his delight in their success.

The delegation, with 30 athletes and 19 support personnel, secured an impressive tally of 33 medals - 8 gold, 18 silver and 7 bronze - across alpine skiing, snowboarding, floorball, snowshoeing, short track speed skating and cross country skiing.

"I am immensely proud of our athletes who have brought glory to the nation at the Special Olympics World Winter Games held in Turin, Italy! Our incredible contingent has brought home 33 medals. Met the contingent in Parliament and congratulated them for their accomplishments," PM Narendra Modi posted on X.

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour and Employment; Youth Affairs and Sports, shared PM Modi's post on X, referring to the athletes' meeting with their "Param-Mitra!"

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has enhanced the monetary rewards for medallists. Gold medal winners receive Rs. 20 lakhs, whilst silver medallists get Rs 14 lakhs, and bronze medallists are awarded Rs 8 lakhs.
