Illinois wins war of 20-18 with Penn State in 9 overtimes.

In a game that set offense back decades, Illinois upset Penn State, 20-18, Saturday in Happy Valley.

The teams exchanged field goals in the first two overtimes to bring the game to the portion of the extra session where it is determined by 2-point conversions.

And the game went on and on as neither offense could convert.

Finally, in the 8th overtime, Illinois managed to convert as Isaiah Williams scored.

However, the game continued when Penn State was able to convert.

In the ninth overtime, the Nittany Lions tried to pass for two points but failed, of course.

Penn State called timeout to break the Illini momentum, um, but it didn’t work as Brandon Peters found Casey Washington to mercifully end the game.

To give you an idea of how inept the offenses were, in the Wake Forest-Army game, the Demon Deacons scored 21 points in each of the third and fourth quarters. Army had 21 in the fourth quarter, too.

Neither Illinois nor Penn State reached the 21-point mark despite the game going 9 overtimes.
