Illinois deer harvest up: Both in youth season and early archery

Harvest is up signficantly for Illinois’s three-day youth season, which ended Monday, and in the early weeks of bowhunting.

Here is an update from the IDNR Division of Wildlife Resources on preliminary deer harvest for the Illinois Archery Deer Season for the period October 1-14, 2019, and the Illinois Youth Firearm Deer Season (October 12-14, 2019).

ARCHERY DEER SEASON

Through Monday, October 14, 2019, Illinois archery deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of 10,167 deer, compared to 7,349 for the same period in 2018.

Harvest to date has consisted of 69% does and 31% males (6965:3202).

The top five counties for archery harvest were Jefferson (290), Fulton (280), Pike (264), Macoupin (224), and Adams (217).

YOUTH DEER SEASON

Youth deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of 3,775 deer during the 3-day Youth Deer Season (October 12-14, 2019), compared to 1,659 in 2018.

Harvest sex ratios were 54% male to 46% female (2026:1749).
