If You Use One Of These Emojis In Your Tinder Bio, It Might Be Hurting Your Matches

If you’re wondering why your Tinder matches are non-existent lately, it’s not you, it’s your emoji. Seriously.

Despite everyone on TikTok swearing that emojis are for boomers, Tinder’s latest stats prove that the entire dating scene is still one giant group chat, just with more risk and fewer actual responses.

The most-used emojis in Aussie Tinder bios

Here’s what’s actually topping the charts: 🤷, ❤️, 😉, 👻, and 😂. Seemingly these are pretty innocent emojis, but Tinder’s data shows some of these are giving off seriously mixed signals.

The shrugging person 🤷 looks casual but just ends up reading as “can’t be bothered”. The ghost 👻 gives off “I’ll disappear after one message” energy. Meanwhile, the winking face 😉 and heart ❤️ suggest you’re open to a bit of fun or romance — nice, safe, and surprisingly effective.

The emojis to avoid on Tinder

Some emojis are basically a flashing “don’t swipe” sign. According to Tinder’s 2025 numbers, the biggest turnoffs are 😤 (face with steam from nose), 😗 (kissing face), 😴 (sleeping face), 😣 (persevering face), and 🥺 (pleading face). If one of these is lurking in your bio, your chances of scoring good matches drop fast.

They’re seen as too intense, confusing, or just plain off-putting — like starting small talk with “rate my emotional baggage”.

But, surprise surprise the real clanger is the 🍑 and 🍆.

These emojis are not the cheeky openers you think they are, and Tinder’s data says it actually halves your chances of swapping numbers.

Fruit and veg are not flirting tools in 2025, sorry.

If all this makes you want to delete every emoji from your life, breathe. The classics work for a reason — a heart, a flirty wink, maybe a smile.

Just don’t get too over the top, unless you’re seriously committed to the bit.

Literally any effort is still the golden rule on dating apps, with or without emojis. Yes, the bar is in hell.
