A new nationwide study has listed the UK’s favourite ‘hidden gems’ - featuring the village of Arrochar.
Just an hour's drive from Glasgow, Arrochar sits within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
Helping holidaymakers find the best under-the-radar spots, HomeToGo have released a full list of the UK’s best-hidden gems. The Loch Lomond village was the only Scottish location to nab a spot on the list.

The study comes after an increase in staycation holidays, due to the pandemic and the increasing cost of living. In June this year, 69% of searches for holiday rentals were for stays in domestic destinations.
71% of participants in the survey said they would rather visit under-the-radar holiday spots as opposed to iconic tourist locations. HomeToGo claims all locations featured in the list are ‘picturesque, well appointed and situated in areas of outstanding natural beauty’.
To obtain the data, HomeToGo analysed average summer temperatures, rainfall, the number of pubs, outdoor activities, photo-friendliness, and prices for accommodation.
Arrochar scored a 7.0 in terms of warmth while being given a 5.0 when it came to rainfall - unsurprisingly, one of the lowest. As for pubs, the village was given a 9.0, putting them pretty high up the list (we Scots love a pub).
Visitors to Arrochar can head to the Arrochar Alps, which offer impressive views of the area. The village also sits beside Argyll Forest Park, Britain’s oldest Forest Park.
For those who enjoy water sports and diving, Loch Long is just a stone's throw away. Here, you can paddle or kayak through one of Scotland's most stunning bodies of water.
Many come to the area for the wide range of wildlife, including grey seals and birds - and on occasion whales and dolphins.
If you’ve had enough of nature, there’s always Cameron House Carrick Spa. Complete with a rooftop infinity pool, there are also full spa services with views of Loch Lomond’s surrounding areas.
