IDF 'dragging away every man they can capture' in West Bank city

THE Israeli army has been accused of “storming” a city in the West Bank and “dragging away every Palestinian man they could capture”, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the UK said.

Husam Zomlot shared video footage on social media that appeared to show a long line of  Palestinian men being led down a street in the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarem by armed Israeli soldiers.

Israel’s military has been conducting raids in the city after it said two of its soldiers were wounded when their vehicle was “hit by an explosive device”.

More than 100 Palestinians have been detained following the raids on Thursday, with the Israeli authorities imposing a curfew in the city, according to Al Jazeera.

Zomlot, who is also the former ambassador of the state of Palestine to the US, has said that Israel is not only trying to “erase” Palestinians from Gaza, but also the people in the West Bank too.

“Earlier today, the Israeli army stormed Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank, dragging away every Palestinian man they could capture,” he said.

“We have said it from day one: Israel’s war is not only the genocide in Gaza, but also the relentless ethnic cleansing of our people in the West Bank.

“The same machinery of erasure is at work everywhere.”

The video, posted on X/Twitter, shows a long line of Palestinian men with their arms on each other's shoulders being led down a road while armed Israeli troops look on and appear to give instructions.

The Israeli troops reportedly stormed shops and cafes, detaining Palestinians, along with taking people out of their vehicles, before forcing them to march towards a military checkpoint.

The raids come after six people were killed and 12 wounded in an attack at a bus stop in the occupied East Jerusalem earlier this week.

Hamas’s armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the shooting, in which both suspects were killed.

“There has been a complete siege and lockdown of these areas,” Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut said on Tuesday following the shooting.

“Collective punishment is in full swing in the occupied West Bank.”

More than 1000 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, with thousands more arrested and hundreds of homes demolished, since Israel launched its bombardment of Gaza.

In June, Erika Guevara Rosas, Amnesty International’s senior director for Research, Advocacy, Policy and Campaigns said: “Israel’s deadly military operation in the occupied West Bank, unfolding in the horrific shadow of its ongoing genocide in the occupied Gaza Strip, has had catastrophic consequences for tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians who are facing a rapidly escalating crisis with no foreseeable prospects of return.”

She added: “Unlawful transfer of protected persons is a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and a war crime.”
