It’s time to prepare your milkshake to bring all the boys to the yard, because Gap has finally (re)-launched in Australia.
In case you have absolutely zero clue what I’m talking about, allow me to explain. Gap, one of America’s most well-known but a little dated denim brands, turbo launched itself back into the culture last year with maybe THE most viral ad of 2025: girl group KATSEYE dancing to Kellis’ iconic track “Milkshake”.
However, Aussies weren’t able to shop the collection from KATSEYE’s campaign — or anything from Gap for that matter — since it wasn’t available to shop. We always miss out of the fun brands, I know.
Now, that’s all changing.
Gap has officially broken into the Australian market and is available to shop at Myer, both online and in select retail stores. You’re now able to shop the brand’s modern essentials, denim, and classic wardrobe staples. Think cosy hoodies (my ex-situationship had one and I can vouch for their softness), sweats, preppy shirts that Blair Waldorf would approve of, and denim you can move freely in (exhibit A: KATSEYE).
This is just the beginning of the brand’s expansion into Australia. While Gap’s exclusively available at Myer for the time being, it will be launching its own e-commerce website for Aussie customers later this year in August. That means you’ll be able to shop an even wider range of Gap’s effortlessly cool, preppy hybrid aesthetic.
If you’re sitting there scratching your head, thinking “I swear I’ve seen Gap in Australia before”, you’re not wrong. In 2015, the American label began opening stores across the country under OrotonGroup, but its stint was shortlived. In 2018, the fashion group closed its Gap franchises in agreement with Gap Inc., and we waved goodbye to our six Gap stores.
In their second attempt to break into the Aussie market, apparel group Fashionista has been appointed Gap’s exclusive franchise partner and distributor in Australia, and will be overseeing the brand’s rollout.
“Gap is an iconic global brand, and we’re excited to reintroduce it to Australia in a way that feels modern, accessible, and relevant. This partnership reflects Fashionata’s commitment to bringing world-class brands to Australian consumers through compelling retail and digital experiences.” said Fashionata chief operating officer, Melissa Trovato in a press release.
