‘Iconic’: Riri Williams is making a name for herself in the new trailer for ‘Ironheart’

Getting to meet Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a dream. I love her comics and getting to see the two smartest women in the Marvel canon working together was amazing. Now, Riri is getting her own show.

The character of Riri Williams was introduced into the Marvel comics world back in 2016. She was an MIT student who went to Tony Stark’s alma mater when she was just 15 and ended up having Tony as her mentor. She’s not a different version of Tony Stark, she’s her own person and it’s been really nice getting to see Thorne’s take on Riri so far in the MCU. But I’m very excited to see her own show come to life.

In the new trailer for the series, we get to see Riri come face to face with Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos). He wants Riri’s intelligence and her ability to get out of any stick situation and he seemingly uses that to his advantage. But what is exciting about the Ironheart trailer is that her intelligence is never questioned. People know she’s a genius and let her thrive in that and I love it!

The series is described as follows: “Set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ironheart pits technology against magic when Riri—determined to make her mark on the world—returns to her hometown of Chicago. Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka ‘The Hood’ (Anthony Ramos).”

Ironheart is executive produced by Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler, who helped introduce Riri to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he spoke about how important she is as a character in the comic world.

“Ironheart is such a great character in publishing,” said Coogler. “In 2016, Brian Michael Bendis created a character who would be a successor of sorts to the Iron Man legacy. In the comic book, Riri Williams and Tony Stark had a relationship—she was a student at MIT who came from an almost polar opposite background as Tony, but they came together in their passion to better society. Eventually, the character gets her own identity as Ironheart, and other writers like Eve Ewing picked up from there, taking Riri Williams to Chicago.”

Riri Williams gets her own show and her own time this coming June on Disney+ and we can’t wait to see just how iconic she can be!
