Iconic comedian Brendan Grace passes away following battle with illness

Much-loved comedian Brendan Grace has passed away aged 68.

It's understood the Liberties man died in the early hours of Thursday morning after a battle with lung cancer.

Last week it was announced that he had to cancel his summer tour after receiving the devastating news while he was being treated for pneumonia.

The dad-of-four has been married to Eileen Doyle since 1973.

Tributes have been paid to Grace, who is also known for his role as Fr Stack in the hit show Father Ted.

Mr Brown's Boys creator Brendan O'Carroll described his as a "comedy legend".

He said: "So sad at the passing of a great comedy legend, husband and father B rendan Grace.

"He opened doors for so many of us and leaves a legacy of love and laughter that will echo through this land and we will all mourn his passing. Rest peacefully Bottler you’ve earned it."

The Irish Mirror has contacted his representatives for comment.
