Iconic Ayrshire restaurant temporarily closes down following coronavirus scare

A famous Kilmarnock restaurant has temporarily closed down following a coronavirus scare.

Cafe Da Vinci will undergo a deep clean this weekend after a worker at the iconic eaterie went for a Covid test.

Bosses at the popular Italian restaurant say they're currently getting in touch with customers who have booked tables for this weekend.

The Strand Street restaurant is the latest hospitality venue to close down over COVID-19 with Buzzworks shutting the Long House after workers there tested positive for the virus.

A statement on Cafe Da Vinci's Facebook page read: "In light of a staff member having to go for a coronavirus test, we are shutting for the weekend to deep clean.

"We are currently contacting all our bookings for this weekend but if you have a table or a takeaway slot booked and we haven’t been in contact can you please get in touch with us on here or call (01563) 573535.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused however our main priority is the safety of our staff and customers.

"Thank you for understanding and we hope to see you soon."
