Iceland reports huge rise in Greggs and Nandos fakeaway orders

Iceland supermarket chain has reported a huge spike in shoppers buying 'fakeaway' products over the last month.

Shoppers seeking alternatives to Nandos, Greggs, KFC and McDonalds have flocked to the store to buy versions of popular fast food dishes.

Iceland sells official Greggs sausage rolls and bakes, as well as Nandos sauces and spices, and also offers alternatives to KFC's chicken and McDonalds and Burger King stickers.

The supermarket says top products being added to baskets online at Iceland.co.uk includes Iceland’s Breakfast Muffins with Sausage & Egg (£3.89) and Nando's Peri-Peri Bag & Bake (£1) and sauces as Brits pine after their favourite fast food.

Iceland have seen a rise in shoppers buying Peri-Peri Bag & Bake as sales have soared by 56%.  Stock of Nando’s Peri-Peri sauces (from £1.50) have also increased by a whopping 115%, while Greggs pastries such as Chicken Bakes, Steak Bakes and Sausage Rolls to have their daily fix at home, with sales up 42%.

All of the fast food deals are available on the Iceland website.

However, shoppers may not need to buy KFC alternatives for long after the fast food chain announced it was opening a handful of restaurants across the country. The KFC takeaways opened over the weekend and are now delivery through Just Eat but the fast food chain has not confirmed when the rest of its restaurants will open.
