Iceland offer Jason Manford a job - after he's knocked back by Tesco

Comedy giant Jason Manford has been offered a job by Iceland - after he was knocked back by Tesco.

He applied for a temp job as a driver with the retailer as he was "trying to do his bit" during the coronavirus pandemic

The Englishman, who finished second in The Masked Singer earlier this year, said he was "livid" when he learned his application had been rejected.

But he still has a chance to help out in the midst of the government lockdown - brought in to stop the spread of the deadly disease - as Iceland have offered him a job.

The 38-year-old, who helped raise £22,000 for a memorial for tragic Scots murder victim Alesha MacPhail, tweeted Tesco's rejection email - and Iceland replied.

As reported by The Mirror, the company generously offered Jason the chance to work for the retailer for just one day, as well as promising to make a donation to the NHS in his name.

Having seen the rejection tweets, Iceland responded: "Our door is always open for you @JasonManford.

"Help us out for the day and we'll make a donation to the NHS in your name. #everylittlehelps"

Iceland's managing director also added: "Looking forward to welcoming @JasonManford to #TeamIceland.

The comedian, who seemed overjoyed with the replies, said: "Seeya on the Ice...land."

Jason's Tesco rejection email included the generic response, to which he jokingly penned back: "Absolutely livid  @Tesco. I was only trying to do my bit. I hope the better person got and enjoys the job, I’ll be watching."

He was later accused of trying to "take the p**s" by applying for a job at his local supermarket.

But he fired back at the accusers by saying: "A few people thought I was taking the p**s, being insensitive or making it up about my previous message about being turned down for a job as a Tesco driver.

"I applied 7 weeks ago when I thought, like everyone, it was basically wartime and it would require all hands on deck."

He also admitted he feels "extremely fortunate" and wished his fans well and to stay safe.
