Bangladesh's regular skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan returned fit to lead the team, but Temba Bavuma was still unavailable to captain South Africa, who won the toss and opted to bat first in their ICC World Cup match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Aiden Markram continues to stand in as the skipper for South Africa.
For Bangladesh, Tahid Hrdioy made way for Shakib's return. South Africa were forced to make a change with fast bowler Lungi Ngidi's knee injury. He was replaced by Lizaad Williams.
"(I am) fully fit. Hridoy is not playing; I come in the team in place of him. Today is an important game. We have to play our best cricket to win against South Africa. I don't mind bowling first. If we restrict them to a reasonable total, we can chase it down," said Shakib after losing the toss.
South Africa skipper Markram said, "Trying to approach in a similar way to the match against England. It's really hot. It took a toll on everyone. It's advantage (to do) fielding in the evening...Ngidi has a niggle; he misses out, Lizaad comes in."
