Ibrahima Konate sends Liverpool fans wild with Instagram update

Liverpool fans have reacted with excitement after Ibrahima Konate removed the words RB Leipzig player from his Instagram biography.

Konate is understood to be one of the centre-back options that Liverpool are considering signing and various reports have claimed that the 21-year-old will be heading to Anfield this summer.

This latest development, spotted by some of the Frenchman’s 107,000 social media followers has only fuelled speculation that a transfer from the Bundesliga – and perhaps to the Reds – could have taken a step closer to completion.

Eagle-eyed Liverpool supporters noticed Konate updated his Instagram bio to no longer include his association with RB Leipzig.

Fans are speculating that the change indicates his transfer could be edging closer.

Jurgen Klopp’s centre-back options have been decimated this season with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all suffering long-term injuries.

Liverpool looked like holding back when it came to signing new recruits in the winter window but then snapped up Preston North End’s Ben Davies and Schalke’s Ozan Kabak (the latter on loan) on the final day.

Although Turkish international Kabak has subsequently played 13 times for the Reds to date, 25-year-old Davies, is still yet to make his debut with Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams partnering each other in the heart of defence in recent matches.

The ECHO understands Liverpool are targeting just one centre-back in the summer with Konate on a list of five potential signings.
