Ibrahima Konate: Real Madrid 'end interest' in Liverpool star amid contract uncertainty

Real Madrid have reportedly cooled their interest in Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

The French centre-back’s current deal at Anfield expires next summer, and from January 2026, he will be free to speak to other clubs from overseas about a pre-contract agreement.

That could mean that the Reds would lose one of their starting central defenders for free should they not agree on fresh terms with the 26-year-old.

Madrid had been heavily linked with a move for the former RB Leipzig man, but The Athletic now report that the La Liga outfit have no interest in the France international.

Konate has been in inconsistent form for the Premier League champions this term, starting all 12 of Liverpool’s Premier League games.

Arne Slot’s side find themselves in 12th in the table, after a disappointing run that has seen them slump to nine defeats in 12 games across all competitions.

Konate and his defensive colleagues have been leaking goals in recent weeks, with the Reds conceding a combined 10 goals across their past three matches.

Konate has been on Merseyside since 2021, when he arrived from the Bundesliga.

Since then, he has played 150 games for the club, scoring six goals.
