Ian Wright thinks Jordan Henderson may be 'phased out' of the Liverpool team

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has heaped praise on Jordan Henderson but admits the Liverpool captain may struggle to get into the team as time goes on.

The Reds skipper scored the all-important equaliser against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday before Mohamed Salah's penalty secured a 2-1 comeback victory.

The win lifted Liverpool six points clear of Manchester City after they beat Aston Villa 3-0 on Saturday.

Henderson has been a constant pick for Jurgen Klopp again this season, although he was left out of their Champions League win over Genk in midweek.

Blood Red: Liverpool vs Arsenal Team Selector

With some sections of the support base and media calling for the inclusion of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Naby Keita - more attack-minded and creative midfielders from the start - Henderson could be one of the players to miss out as a result.

Wright suggested that Henderson being shifted on to the right-hand side of midfield, as he has been in the previous two matches, could be a sign he is beginning to be phased out, but did say he believes it's players like the captain that help you win league titles.

Wright told BBC Radio 5Live Monday Night club: "Whatever we say about Jordan Henderson, for him to be pushed out on to that right-hand side and for him to come up with the goal, that is how you win leagues, players like that.

"You can see slowly, he's not going to get into that midfield in the future of where Liverpool are going. This could be the first knockings of the 'phasing out'.

"He's come out and whatever you say about the way he has played, the substitutions, how he's been taken off, he gets on with it and that's how you win leagues. Players like him help you win leagues."
