Ian Wright names Liverpool player who put on a 'masterclass' in West Ham win

Ian Wright labelled Trent Alexander-Arnold's performance for Liverpool in the 2-1 win at West Ham United on Wednesday night as a 'masterclass' in passing.

Alexander-Arnold provided the assist for Cody Gakpo's equaliser for Liverpool after Lucas Paqueta fired past Alisson Becker. Joel Matip then powered a bullet header beyond Lukasz Fabianski for all three points for the Reds.

Alexander-Arnold has been criticised for his part in Liverpool's lacklustre campaign, but he now looks to be back close to his best after recording five assists in his last three games.

Those assists have come when the 24-year-old has been moved into a hybrid midfield run by Jurgen Klopp. And Wright certainly believes it is paying off.

The Arsenal legend said on Match of the Day: “Trent’s masterclass that he put on today with his passing, it was, in the first half in particular, absolutely unbelievable.

“His passes, the way he gets them through those lines, the way he puts it in there with purpose. In the right-back spot, he was getting back and doing his defending as well.

“[He’s] somebody who can make that pass that opens it up, opens it up for the forwards, someone like Gakpo. He had 123 touches, most of them were top-quality touches.”
