Ian Evatt's response to claims over Bolton Wanderers midfielder Marcus Maddison's Barrow absence

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has said reports surrounding Marcus Maddison's absence from the matchday squad for last month's win against Barrow are a 'non-story'.

The Charlton Atheltic loanee was not part of the matchday 18 for the victory over Evatt's former side last month.

Evatt said after the game that the 27-year-old had a non-coronavirus related sickness bug overnight which kept him out of the Bolton boss' plans on the day.

Maddison watched the late victory from the stands at the University of Bolton Stadium and has been in the next two matchday squads for Bolton.

A report has emerged today in the Daily Mail alleging that Maddison 'slept in' on the day of the game.

But ahead of the clash against Cambridge United tomorrow evening, the Bolton boss has rubbished the reports and said the issue is a 'non-story' and that the winger was not well.

Evatt said: “It’s a non-story, Marcus was ill. It’s as simple as that.

"I can't tell you any more than that. I can only tell you what happened. It’s a non-story, he wasn’t well, simple as that.”
