'I was the other woman - now we're married and I've become best friends with his ex'

Relationships can be complicated at times, and while you can't necessarily help you who catch feelings for, it can make things messy if you end up falling for one of your friend's partners.

That's exactly the situation one woman on TikTok found herself in when she began seeing a man named Josh when she was in school - while he was dating a woman named Alesha, who would later become her best friend.

Alexis Mounsey, who is from the US, explained Josh and Alesha were in a relationship throughout high school, and when Alexis met Josh, they hit it off immediately, leading to them having an affair behind Alesha's back.

While Josh was dating Alesha, the pair welcomed a daughter named Riley, but they later separated and Josh pursued a relationship with Alexis, whom he is now married to.

In a video on her @lexismoun account, the woman said: "This TikTok started because I wanted to show people that it was possible to overcome the past and you can become friends while co-parenting.

"Alesha and Josh - Josh is my husband - they dated in high school. Josh and I met right around the time when they started dating and we became friends very fast.

"Josh cheated on Alesha with me throughout high school here and there, and then Josh and I got together after they had broken up.

"There were still loose ends and what not and they created Riley when Josh and I first got together. So the past was messy!"

Alexis now helps co-parent Josh and Alesha's daughter, and she created her TikTok account to share her unique family journey with people online.

The woman also insisted in a follow-up video that she didn't become friends with Alesha until after she had broken up with Josh - and claimed she had no idea Josh was in a relationship when the cheating occurred.

She said: "I was in high school. That doesn't make it any better, but like, I didn't care in high school. I liked who I wanted to like, and if he's going to tell me that he doesn't have a girlfriend, and she didn't go to our school, then [I'm going to believe him].

"Was it wrong? Yes. Do I feel bad about it now? Yeah, because now I love her and she's my best friend. But other than that I don't feel bad because our life wouldn't be the way it is now, and I love our life."

Alexis has been accused of "stealing" her best friend's boyfriend by vicious trolls online, but most of the comments the woman gets are from people sympathising with her story - as everyone makes mistakes, especially when they're young.

One person said: "I made so many mistakes as a teen/young adult ... mistakes are part of life our mistakes don't define us."

While another added: "It happens, you were young. Like we all didn't do things back then, come on people."

"Everyone makes mistakes. But people grow. Anyone that says their life is perfect is lying. But we all live and learn", someone else commented.
