I wanted to leave Rangers game EARLY - but forgot I was working

A former Rangers player has admitted he wanted to leave last night's 1-0 defeat against Genk EARLY.

And the only reason he couldn't was because of his work commitments as a pundit.

Derek Ferguson has revealed he forgot about his professional duties as he got set to leave Ibrox 10 minutes early last night during Rangers' Europa League opener against the Belgians.

Ex-Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu scored the only goal of the game on 55 minutes, as Russell Martin's side were made to pay for going down to 10 men during the first half when Mohamed Diomande was sent off for a dangerous lunge.

Ferguson feels for Rangers supporters, insisting they are being 'short-changed'.

And as a fan of the club himself, he would have been out of there before the end of 90 minutes had it not been for work.

“You’re looking for energy and passion to get the fans who showed up here tonight going," he said on BBC Scotland's Sportsound. “The fans deserve so much better that’s clear to see. It felt as they just let the game drift on.

“But when you’re down to ten men and you’re going into the last ten minutes, just get the ball up the park to try to create something in and around the box. That’s on the manager, he’s got to come up with something.

“It doesn’t look like there’s any belief in these players – when you’re in the stadium, that’s the feeling you get.

“I was going to walk out with ten minutes to go, but I forgot I was working. That’s the feeling I had. The fans are getting short-changed.”
