'I wanted to capture that sense of sanctuary and magic you feel being surrounded by water' – Helena Christensen designed a lounge chair that embodies modern Scandi luxury

Helena christensen for BoConcept.

Scandinavian design is known for its coziness, simplicity, and innate connection to nature. With the launch of her Ø lounge chair, Helena Christensen captured everything there is to love about the region's style.

The Danish supermodel created her stunning living room sofa idea in collaboration with design giant BoConcept. Her sophisticated furnishing is an oversized version of a classic sofa, with a curved silhouette that wraps sitters in a comforting hug. Its ergonomic design and plush cushions guarantee ultimate coziness right alongside high art.

According to its designer, this seat is as much an experience and idea as it is a piece of Scandinavian decor. Helena tells Homes & Gardens: 'The Ø lounge chair is deeply inspired by the islands of Denmark, where I grew up. I wanted to capture that sense of sanctuary and magic you feel being surrounded by water, a cocooning space where you can retreat, curl up with a book, or simply let your mind wander.'

Though it's a single piece of furniture, the ideas behind the lounge chair are much further-reaching. This newest iteration of the curved sofa is a view into what the future of Scandinavian design might look like.

Helena explains: 'Its enveloping form, clean curves, and tactile softness were all designed to create a sculptural presence that still feels like a warm embrace in the home.' It's a true celebration of what makes Scandinavian design special.

She continues: 'Balancing this boldness with soft, organic shapes brings harmony and warmth. Curved edges and natural textures introduce a gentle flow that makes the room feel welcoming and effortlessly stylish. This blend of dynamic color, distinctive forms, and soothing lines allows you to craft a living space that’s uniquely personal.'
