I tried the Bailey's Eton Mess Irish Cream for summer but it reminded me of heartburn medication

Summer months mean weekend barbecues, lounging in the garden and sipping something boozy because ‘it’s five o’clock somewhere’. And Baileys has launched a new flavour that’s going to be perfect for the Jubilee bank holiday and Wimbledon.

The limited edition Eton Mess Baileys initially launched last month, and is available in supermarkets such as Morrisons, Waitrose and Sainsburys.

Priced at £17, the cream liqueur features a ‘ blend of delicious and moreish flavours of strawberries, raspberries, meringue and whipped cream’ - so I gave it a whirl to see if it’s set to be the tipple of 2022.

It’s not the first limited edition Baileys that shoppers have flocked to buy, with their Pina Colada and Red Velvet Cupcake varieties proving popular over the last 12 months.

Coming in a pink plastic-wrapped bottle displaying swirls of strawberries and cream, the Eton Mess Baileys certainly looks the part. The base of the 70cl bottle is transparent though, where you can see the pink coloured tipple through the glass.

Pouring the beverage into a glass, I was reminded of my days working in a pharmacy with a striking resemblance to Pepto Bismol. The thick liquid is completely opaque, and a sickly shade of milkshake pink.

At 17 per cent ABV, it’s a strong drink to sip neat or on the rocks, and if you inhale into the glass when taking a glug, it can really catch the back of your throat and tickle your nose, but the actual flavour of the creamy drink is quite fruity.

I can definitely see why some people will love this Irish cream, but it’s not for me as it’s a bit too sweet and sickly. Though Baileys does suggest that customers could pour it over desserts for ‘a creamy, indulging and yummy treat’, which definitely sounds like it would be my preferred way to enjoy this - perhaps even in an Eton Mess.

You can try Baileys Eton Mess for yourself and make your own mind up on the strawberry flavoured summer tipple by picking up a bottle online. It's currently got £1 off in Sainsbury's making it just £16.
