'I tried Aldi's affordable Lacura products - and got complimented on my 'glowing skin'

If there's one fact of life that will always remain certain, it is that Aldi is one of the best places to be when you want to nab yourself some sweet bargains.

From your weekly groceries to picking up homeware from their infamous 'middle aisle' - also known as Specialbuys - the supermarket has become known for its top quality products at low prices.

And that's not all the discounted chain is known for, as they have also branched out into the beauty and skincare world with the launch of their in house brand Lacura. The supermarket's own-brand features a range of luxurious beauty products that are said to be very similar to designer brands such as Clinique, Elizabeth Arden, Liz Earle and more - but without the price-tag.

Not only are the prices extremely low, but beauty enthusiasts and dedicated Aldi fans swear the products make your skin look and feel just as good, if not better, than some designer brands.

With glowing reviews and products going viral on social media, I have always wondered if the supermarket's own-brand of skincare products are as good as people say. Despite being a massive Aldi and skincare fanatic, I had never really tried them out before as I had a pretty solid routine in place.

But, like so many others these days, the rising cost of living has forced me to switch up a few of my shopping habits, meaning I had to look into a more affordable skincare routine that would still give me results.

So, I decided to test out some of Aldi's most popular skincare products that promised the skincare fanatic in me glowing results for much less. I tried out five products over the course of two weeks, including the Hot Cloth Cleanser, Moisturizing Facial Wash, Rejuvalate Day and Night Cream and the Healthy Glow Glycolic Toner.

Here is how I got on...

Lacura Original Hot Cloth Cleanser

Price: £2.99

The Aldi Hot Cloth Cleanser (Rachel Williams)

If there is one thing that I think every skincare routine should have, it is a good cleanser that will help you remove impurities and make-up while keeping your skin soft. When it comes to a good cleanser, I need to be quite wary of what I am purchasing, because a lot of them leave my skin dry and tight.

That was not the case with Aldi's iconic Original Hot Cloth Cleanser. Priced at just £2.99, the cleanser has racked up hundreds of five star reviews from beauty enthusiasts who hail it as "fabulous" and "great value."

I absolutely loved the creamy texture which definitely helped remove all my make-up - eye make-up included - and left my skin feeling luxuriously smooth. Combined with the hot cloth to 'polish' the skin, I genuinely felt as though my skin had a spa facial from home.

Rating: 5/5

Lacura Moisturising Facial Wash

Price: 99p

The Lacura Moisturising Face Wash (Rachel Williams)

Now, I know what you are all thinking, didn't I just review a facial cleanser. That I did, but I am a big believer in the 'double cleanse' routine, especially in the evenings when I need to take off all my make-up, which is where this face wash came in handy.

On the days that I just needed a generic face wash, or for those 'double cleanse' days, I used this 99p face wash which is said to be good for anyone who suffers from dry skin.

For me, the absolute winner of this face wash, was the fact that it was perfume and soap free, which was perfect for someone like me. My skin didn't feel as tight afterwards and was actually pretty soft.

The only thing I will say, is that it doesn't lather up as much as I would like. I did feel that I had to use quite a bit mixed with warm water before it really gave enough to clean the full face.

However, for 99p, I can't complain at the product and its results.

Lacura Healthy Glow Glycolic Toner

Price: £2.99

The Lacura Healthy Glow Glycolic Toner (Rachel Williams)

If you're wanting to give your skin a bit of a refreshing glow, then everyone knows that you need a good glycolic toner in your skincare routine. The must-have ingredient not only keeps your skin glowing, but it can keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay. If I can do that for just £2.99, then sign me up.

Which is exactly why I decided to test out the Healthy Glow Glycolic Toner which features a light 5% of glycolic acid, meaning it could be used twice daily.

The toner is known for removing impurities and brightening skin tone so well that shoppers can't stop raving about it - and I absolutely agree with the reviews.

Unlike a few toners that contain an AHA, this toner doesn't leave any redness on my skin and didn't cause any sensitivity, which I was absolutely grateful for.

A small amount popped onto a cotton pad went a long way and the scent wasn't over-powering or too artificial. Considering the size is a 250ml bottle, I think my money was well spent.

Lacura Rejuvelate Day Cream

Price: £3.49

The Rejuvelate Night Cream (Rachel Williams)

If there is one thing I love, it is a good moisturising day cream that features a good layer of SPF protection, as well as age-defying properties. Which is exactly why I picked up this budget-priced day cream.

I will admit, I was a little sceptical when I first opened the tub, mainly because it seemed like quite a heavy based cream. Despite having dry skin, I do feel like thicker creams tend to leave my face feeling over-saturated and oily.

So, imagine my surprise when this cream literally melted into my pores and left me feeling velvety smooth for the entire day. Despite being recommended for the older age groups, I think anyone looking for hydrated and smooth skin should try this cream out.

Lacura Rejuvelate Night Cream

And, of course, to end any skincare regime, you need a truly luxurious moisturiser to sink into and repair your skin while you get some good hours of shut eye.

I had heard that Aldi's Rejuvenate Night Cream had received rave reviews from beauty enthusiasts who say that it left their skin 'plump and glowing in the morning'. Naturally I had to try it out for myself.

Much like the day cream, the night cream really does melt into the skin, the scent isn't too overpowering, and it never leaves a greasy sheen on the face.

Add on the fact that my skin still felt hydrated come the morning, I have to say that this budget beauty product is definitely worth the hype. Not to mention that my skin definitely felt a lot smoother over the past couple of weeks of religiously using this moisturiser every evening before bed.

Rating: 5/5

Overall verdict

Well, I have to admit, after a couple of weeks of testing a few products out, I am genuinely a convert to the cult of Aldi's skincare products.

Pretty much all of the products were worth the hype and delivered exactly what they said on the packaging. Looking for a great cleanser? The Original Hot Cloth Cleanser. Need a bit of a glow? The Healthy Glow Glycolic Toner should be your next buy? Need a bit of moisturisation? The Rejuvelate Day and Night Cream will leave your skin protected, hydrated and plumper.

Considering most of these products cost between 99p - £3.49, I definitely got a range of luxurious products that helped my skin look and feel a lot better. Not to mention that I did actually get asked if I had changed my skincare routine because my skin had been glowing recently - and that was pretty much enough incentive for me to keep using these products.
