I tried a TikTok famous mascara that made my lashes look fake

I’m often wary when I come across an over-hyped product, especially when TikTok is my main source.

Mascara is a tricky one, because there are many differing opinions as to what exactly makes a ‘good’ mascara.

Is the mascara better if it gives you length, thickness, or a ‘false lash’ aesthetic?

The Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High mascara has been talked about a lot recently, and I wanted to find out why.

Priced at £7.95, I wasn’t expecting much for a mascara less than £10, but decided to put it to the test nonetheless.

The product

The Sky High mascara product description promises a lot, with a ‘exclusive flex tower mascara brush’ aimed to volumize and extend every single lash.

With bamboo extract and fibers infused in the washable mascara formula, it aims to create longer, fuller looking lashes that ‘never get weighed down.’

When I went into Boots, I noticed that there were only two of these left on the shelf, which is always promising.

The overall packaging looked okay, nothing fancy or luxurious, just an average looking mascara, but I wasn’t going to let that sway my opinion.

Interestingly, the product description itself even states ‘as seen on TikTok’ so Maybelline clearly know exactly hows to market its product.

The results

To put it bluntly, this mascara is amazing.

Just one stroke from the root to the tip of my eyelash and the volume was incredible.

The mascara brush itself looked thin and precise, making it a good product to grip your lashes and extend.

I didn’t even curl my eyelashes, and after a few strokes I basically looked like I was wearing false eyelashes.

One thing I will say though, if you’re a fan of putting on a few layers of mascara, beware of clump.

Of course, this is natural, but I feel like this may put some people off the product itself.

You don’t have to put on loads of layers for it to work though, two or three strokes for me was enough to make my eyes pop.

It was quick too, this mascara could be perfect for someone who doesn't have much time to get ready in the morning.

What I loved about the product: I could achieve voluminous looking lashes very quickly

What I didn’t love about the product: After a few strokes it did begin to look clumpy.

My verdict

As much as I hate to admit it, this mascara is definitely worth the hype.

If it was a particularly expensive mascara, I wouldn’t give it as much credit, but because it’s less than £10 it’s a golden find.

You can achieve a natural daytime look in seconds, or layer it with eyeliner and a red lip for the evening.

Purchase the mascara here for £7.95.
