Dyson is responsible for some of the greatest innovations in the world of vacuum cleaners, and their iconic designs have led the market for some time with unrivaled suction and intelligent features.
But because of this, Dysons cost a lot more than almost all other vacuums. It may be out of pride, but I'd always refused to spend that much on a vacuum cleaner.
That is, until I got my hands on the best Dyson vacuum. It cleaned my floors unlike anything else and revealed dust I didn't know existed.

Why the Dyson V15 Detect is my all-time favorite vacuum
I've spent more than 250 hours testing the best vacuum cleaners for Homes & Gardens – and from all the vacuuming I've done in our test center, a local pet shelter and my own home, the Dyson V15 Detect takes the number one spot.
This is mostly owed to the vacuum's ability to achieve suction power that none of the other best cordless vacuums can reach. It's as strong as a large, corded machine, but with the agility and convenience of a cordless stick. It can even adjust to how dirty your floors are and up the suction when needed.
Not only that, but the V15 Detect has a green laser that illuminates dust that the naked eye can't see. It may sound like a vacuum gimmick, but it's almost alarming how much is revealed that you otherwise couldn't see:
The V15 Detect also happens to be our best vacuum for pet hair, with a specialized floorhead that can pull fur from carpets while never (ever) getting tangled with hair. When vacuuming at a local cat and dog shelter, the V15 Detect performed better than almost all others – on every floor type.

The V12 Detect Slim is the smaller, lighter version of the V15 Detect. Other than a smaller dustbin and slightly lower suction power, it has all the same smart features including the green laser that reveals 'invisible' dust, and the anti-tangle floorhead. While this cordless Shark can't clean as well as a Dyson can, it comes pretty close considering it costs around half as much. It also has some features you won't find in a Dyson, including a flexible wand for cleaning under furniture and a multi-surface floorhead that doesn't need swapping out as you pass from carpets to hard floors.

I'll be completely honest – this Ultenic vacuum isn't nearly as powerful as a Dyson. But when you compare this budget vacuum to the V15 Detect, it's the only vacuum we've tested with a green laser that works as well as a Dyson. I wouldn't recommend it if you carpets, but its suction is more than enough for homes with hard floors.
