Another case of “what I ordered vs. what I got” has gone viral. In a TikTok, Dollar Tree customer Gabby (@gabbygabs05) says, “I went to the dollar store and I bought the heart-shaped balloons.”
She then shows a partially inflated balloon. “And, this is what I’m getting,” she says.
The balloon has a normal round shape with two little nubs at the top that are supposed to inflate to create the heart. “
I’m not understanding,” Gabby says. Before ending her video, she asks viewers if they’ve ever bought the product before and know how she’s supposed to inflate it to get the desired result.
‘You’re not blowing with love’
In the comments section, viewers joked as to why the balloon did not create a heart shape.
“You have to blow heart-shaped breaths or else it won’t work,” one said. “You have to breathe from your heart not your lungs,” another wrote.
A third, referencing the popular children’s show Arthur, said, “It’s giving Arthur when DW goes ‘how do you get square balloons?’ and the clerk goes ‘blow square breaths’.”
Others were more serious.
“Girl don’t [p– me off] finish blowing the dayum balloon up,” one said.
“Janeyshine had a video how to do it lol,” another more kindly wrote.
How do you blow up the Dollar Tree heart balloons?
In Janeyshine’s video, she says you need a pump to inflate the balloon. She uses an electric pump, not a mechanical one.
“Hold down the center like I’m doing,” she says. “And don’t blow it up all at once. Just let it inflate and deflate so it could take shape. What you wanna do is let the air go to the sides to make the heart point.”
If you don’t have a pump, another TikToker shows how you can properly inflate the balloons with your mouth.
Like Janeyshine, she places her hand in the crevice between the two points of the heart. She then blows normally, no inflating and deflating necessary. She cautions viewers not to overblow, as the balloon will pop.
A different method
In a follow-up clip, the TikToker tries stretching it first to see if it’ll work. It still doesn’t full turn into a heart. The comments recommend she molds the balloon as she inflates it.
“You’re supposed to hold the middle at the top while you’re blowing it up,” one said. “And it actually works a lot better with a pump because you’re supposed to release the air and then pump it up again while still holding the middle at the top.”
In a third clip, Gabby is finally able to inflate the balloon to a heart shape, calling the first one she did “defective.”
However, some still thought it looked off.
“They look more like teeth than hearts to me,” one wrote.
