'I'm ditching my wife's 30th birthday party for my friend's wedding - we're very close'

A man has caused controversy after deciding to ditch his wife's birthday party for his best friend's wedding. It's a difficult conundrum, as both days are important to his loved ones, and now he's left wondering whether he's made the right decision.

Most of us would be grateful for one party invite, let alone two, but it is a quandary that he would rather not have. Unfortunately for him, he is faced with a monumental clash of dates, and whatever he decides, he will upset someone. But it is his wife who will be losing out and she is not very happy about his decision, and now he's questioning whether he did the right thing.

Taking to Reddit to reveal the saga, he wrote: "My wife is turning 30 and has planned a big birthday party with her friends and family. Unfortunately, my best friend has also got his wedding on the same evening".

"He is my best friend and we are very close and I do not get along with my wife's family."

His partner hasn't taken too kindly to his reasoning, however, as he explains: "My wife is now furious with me and demanding that I do not go to the wedding, but I can't go back on the commitment I made to my best friend."

He adds by way of explanation that his wife's birthday party had been planned for a few months, invites had already been sent out and the venue booked.

"I got the wedding invite this week," he says. "So, am I the a****** for going to the wedding anyway?"

Reddit users did not hold back, as one wrote: "I guess if you want to be divorced, it’s fine to go to the wedding".

"Honestly she's turning 30 and has been planning for months. OP [original poster] only just got the RSVP, I would go with the wife and send friend a good gift," another said.
