I'm a Celebrity viewers react to first episode in 'breathtaking' Wales

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! 2020 kicked off last night.

ITV viewers were finally introduced to this year's line-up as they took on challenges and trials in a brand new camp in Wales. If you missed the first episode you can find a full recap here.

The highly-anticipated series had everyone on the edge of their seats as it aired from Gwrych Castle in Abergele and not the famous jungle in Queensland, Australia.

In opening scenes, the ruined castle stood tall and proud as it was impressively lit up with flames ready to welcome this year's contestants.

Before their arrival, however, 2020's campmates had to abseil down a cliff near Snowdonia.

To get there, I'm A Celeb pulled out all the stops, flying five celebrities over in helicopters and driving the other five through rolling countryside in jeeps.

The scenes gave viewers at home a glimpse into this year's stunning surroundings, and it's safe to say that Wales really stole the show.

One viewer wrote: "Absolutely stunning backdrop and scenery. Really breathtaking. This is going to be an amazing series!"

Another added: "What a breathtakingly beautiful place @AbergeIe and @GwrychTrust is. Stunning. Gorgeous scenery for days."

A third commented: "Wales you look beautiful! I'm A Celeb looks good on you.

"Loving the show so far tonight, Ant and Dec are on top form as always, cracking bunch of celebs too."

And a fourth said: "Well Wales is freakin' beautiful isn't it?"

Others even called for ITV to make the switch from the jungle to the castle permanent due to the "unreal" backdrop.

"Scenery in Wales looking stunning on I'm a Celebrity. Who needs Australia!" said one.

A second echoed: "Probs a bit controversial but I can't be the only one that likes I'm A Celeb in Wales more than in Australia ? Loving the whole castle thing."

This year's camp is based in the sea-side town of Abergele in the county of Conwy, Wales.

Gwrych Castle is 200 years old and was recently restored especially for the show, you can find out more about the beautiful Grade I listed building here.

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
