I'm A Celebrity stand-in speculation rubbished by bosses as Richard Madeley forced to quit

ITV bosses have shut down speculation that a stand-in contestant is going into the castle after Richard Madeley was forced to quit on Thursday.

This Morning legend Richard was taken to hospital in the early hours after producers and his fellow camp mates were left concerned for him

Richard was examined by I'm A Celebrity's on site medical staff and then visited A&E as "a precaution."

But his trip to hospital ultimately cost Richard his place on the show as he was forced to quit based after breaking the show's Covid bubble.

An ITV source explained: "Our strict Covid protocols means Richard has sadly had to leave the show as he is no longer in the bubble the celebrities form when entering the castle.

"He has been a truly brilliant camp mate and we thank him for being part of this series."

Before the new series of I'm A Celebrity had even started, reports were swirling that bosses had a stand-in contestant lined up - music star Locksmith from Brit Award winning dance act Rudimental.

Rudimental are the group who have had number 1s with hits like Feel The Love and Waiting All Night, which won them a Brit for Best Single.

However, in a statement issued to confirm Richard's exit, ITV 'claimed no stand ins will be entering the castle.'

If Locksmith, real name Leon Rolle, does end up going in the castle he will follow in the footsteps of last year's eventual runner-up Jordan North, who was drafted in as a replacement for Naughty Boy, who is now on the show, after he was forced to pull out due to personal reasons.

Richard has recorded a message for his camp mates so they know he was OK and will discuss his exit with Ant and Dec on Friday night's show.
